Rediscovering Historical Fiction

I’ve always been a fan of historical romances. The elegance of ballroom dances, the weight of aristocratic titles, the tension between old and new money, the delicate servant dynamics that quietly shaped society - it fascinated me. Then there were the little details that made the stories come alive: the wallflowers lingering on the sidelines, the charming rake who couldn’t be tamed, and the scholarly lord with spectacles who cared more for his books than for the rules of the ton. Then there were the fortune hunters, the ambitious mamas determined to secure titled lords for their daughters, perfect debutantes whose biggest rebellion is stitching an extra rose into their embroidery, those late-night illicit trysts that could ruin reputations forever, two men of different ranks vying for the same woman after a remarkable transformation, and the mysterious recluse lord hiding from society. Inside My Library: 130 Books That Feed My Love for Thrills, Mystery, and Romance

My library used to be a colorful mix of genres - fantasy, historical fiction, a little romance here and there. But somewhere along the line, I started reading thrillers more than anything else. Other genres started to feel monotonous, and left me feeling disappointed. Sometimes, I would abandon a book halfway.

Thrillers, though? They give me everything. I would flip through pages, eager to know who committed the murder, or what secrets the author wants the reader to uncover.  Sometimes, impatience gets the best of me and i sneak a peek at the last pages of the book. But even then, the ending still shocks me. That’s the beauty of a good thriller: the newness never fades.

Now, my shelves hold about 130 books, mostly packed with the kind of stories that pull you in and refuse to let go.

You’ll spot some familiar names if you’re a thriller lover like me - Lisa Jewell, K.L. Slater, B.A. Paris, Freida McFadden, Wendy Clarke, Paula Hawkins, Loreth Anne White, Laura Wolfe, Anna Downes, Ronnie Turner, Clare Mackintosh, Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen, Ruth Ware, and more. Each one has given me a story I couldn’t imagine if I tried.

Lately, I’ve been drawn to psychological thrillers - the kind with the perfect shock factor, the ones that make you question everything you thought you knew, and still manage to surprise you at the end.

Which of these authors do you love the most? And if you had to recommend ONE thriller I should add to my shelf, what would it be? Drop your favorites in the comments - I’m always hunting for my next obsession!
